Epidemiological Study on Metagonimus yokogawai infection in Gurye Gun,Chollanam Do,Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
An epidemiological investigation was carried out to observe Metagonimus yokogawai infection, the state of the snail intermediate host and the fishhost which were infected with the cercariae and metacercariae of Metagonimus yokoawai along the Seomjiri River basin in Gurye Gun, Chollanam Do, Korea, from July to September, 1983.
The result are summerized as follows.
1. The prevalence rate of Metagonitnus yokogawai infection was 25.2% out of 429 examined cases; male 35.0%, female 10.5%
2. By age and sex, the highest rate was observed at 50-59 age group (54.5%). The over-all prevalence rate was higher in male than in female.
3. By social strata, the the prevalence showed 60.7% in school teacher and local officer, 34.3% in general inhabitants, 4.8% in student and children group.
4. The mean E.P.G counts were 2,749.
5. Cercariae of Metagonimus yokogawai from the 1st intermediate host, Semisu lcospra sp., were detected 18 snails, (7.5%) out of 240 examined.
6. The numbar of the metacercariae detected was 13,874 per fish in average.
